TTC Sleeper photog returns to pursuit of hunting hipsters

One last spin on TTC Sleeper: the infamous photograph of dozing McCowan LRT station booth attendant George Robitaille captured by Jason P. Wieler was originally fed through @OGLE_Toronto, tied to his local website that launched last fall. (Slogan: “Where street and creativity meet.”) And while the Sleeper’s impact was being debated in the newspapers this weekend, Wieler was more interested in snapping fresh pics for the most fascinating part of the site — his collection of Street Photos. This concept is as primitive as the first cad to ever print up business cards for a fictitious modelling agency, although heightened to a form of artistic photojournalism by Scott Schuman’s The Sartorialist — and therefore as eternally original as the young subjects who pose for Wieler’s camera, and explain a bit about themselves. Based on the responses to the question about three favourite websites, more millennials still use Hotmail than you’d think. Jeffrey, snapped across from the Reference Library, sports an infowars.com T-shirt and gives a shout-out to “all my boys trying to make it out of the 905.” Megan, found across from Osgoode Hall, reveals that she “can’t bend over because I have two metal rods in my back.” Julian, spotted at Bloor and Spadina, confesses to being an enthusiast of diabolical message board 4chanJuli, discovered at University and King, describes herself: “I’m very self aware, which makes me accepting of everyone, because I see my own faults.” Just added yesterday, Meg — channelling Andy Warhol: “I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want to own.”
