Nelly Furtado perfects the three-and-a-half-minute telenovela
The first single from Nelly Furtado’s fourth album Mi Plan is only starting to gain commercial radio airplay across Canada, but the more voracious Latin music market burns through their hits faster, which means a second Pedro Amaldovar-esque video full of moodiness she’d never be able to pull off en inglés. While on “Manos Al Aire” she played the militant soldier of love, the brand new “Más” deals with the universal theme of wondering why your man is spending more time flirting on the computer than fondling you to sleep — and only in Spanish could one credibly lip-synch while lying alone in bed. Spoiler alert: after learning the truth, Nelly stakes out the other woman’s front door, catching her dude mid-smooch, and ends up throwing punches at them both. And we know this is a fiction, compared to her low-key Toronto domestic life, because of Twitter — her original observations over the past week include the diversity of Life Brand products, being unaware of the origins of the royal visit motorcade, and wondering what people throw away from their Halloween swag bag.
