Mondoville Daily Scroll: November 6

Comments Off 06 November 2009

Today on the Scroll: high-priced windows celebrated with lo-fi music; clothier finds its wealthy customers are too busy to look at a blog; Canadian business dean mouths off about American innovation; sports shock jock learns not to drink and dance; and mom of teen star tattles too much.

Leslie Feist Unveils Holt Renfrew Holiday Windows [Tceb.ca]: Recessionary shift to overpriced grunge chic affirmed by indie rock chanteuse called in as a last-minute fill-in for swankier Broadway singer Kristin Chenoweth. Windows will provide shelter for homeless snowmen through New Year’s Day.

Expensive Lesson Learned [Simon Houpt, Globe and Mail]: Harry Rosen director of marketing Sandra Kennedy confesses at a social media forum that no more than a thousand people clicked on their blog strategy. The New Confidence, since deleted, highlighted successful businessmen wearing Rosen clothes to stare down the stock market: “When so few readers materialized, Ms. Kennedy said the company scrambled to find ways to throw the content up onto Facebook and other online outlets.” [It lives on YouTube]

What’s Thwarting American Innovation? Too Much Science, Says Roger Martin [Fast Company]: Dean of the Rotman School of Management plugs his new book, The Design of Business: Why Design Thinking is the Next Competitive Advantage, concocting keywords in a bid to become the denser version of his old Kitchener-area pal, Malcolm Gladwell.

The inside story on host’s firing [Truth & Rumours]: William Houston details what exactly happened to wayward Score Media’s raspy-voiced in-house miscreant Gabriel Morency, who was canned the other day. Being audibly drunk during his show on the Hard Core Sports satellite radio channel did him in — especially when he could be seen dancing via webcam: “Listen, when I’m on the top of the mountain, I’m like King Kong. I might have said some things.”

THE TRUTH BEHIND ALL THE DRAMA… [ZackTaylor.ca]: Chances are, you have too much education to comprehend exactly what happened after local Perez-wannabe Zack Taylor reported that Demi Lovato was dating Camp Rock co-star Joe Jonas. The ensuing fallout forced Zack to reveal who his source was for the information — Demi’s mom!
