Mondoville Daily Scroll: October 26
Today on the Scroll: zombie walk jumps the gravestone; national media convergence meltdown a trickle for local businesses; information-deluged columnist pretends to invent a word; bus driver alleged to have gone ballistic over a tossed coffee cup; and multi-platform pin-up girl unflattered.
Walk leaves ‘em dead on their feet [Toronto Sun]: Toronto Zombie Walk organizers, Adam Pearson and the conveniently named Thea Munster, got engaged at their seventh annual event on Saturday, promoted with four YouTube commercial spots shot for a total of $100 — helping to bring out 3,000 participants. Before the concept hits the wall forever, the Zombie Short Film Festival at the Revue Cinema this Friday is being promoted with a poster tribute to appropriation artist Shepard Fairey.
Details of Canwest’s debts to other companies outlined in creditor list [Canadian Press]: Rival media organizations try picking over restructuring detail for cheap laffs, but not much there: tens of dollars due a florist, barber shop, karate school, etc. Defending contributions to the local economy don’t wash when most was owed to Hollywood.
500 channels of heartbreak [Robert Fulford, National Post]: “News was once self-selected; you turned it on or you didn’t, according to taste, mood and time of day. Now it’s become mandatory, a kind of ambush, the way music did many years ago with the rise of Muzak. Call it newzak.” But others have already tried that — it was the name of a chapter in Bernard Goldberg’s anti-liberal-media book Bias, which came out in 2002.
TTC row ends in charges, lawsuit [Toronto Star]: Alice Evenson, a 41-year-old artist, is seeking $2.3 million in damages on grounds that a bus driver called her a “loser,” then choked and dragged her. Disputed: the aerodynamics of an empty Starbucks cup, and the alleged aggression that followed.
Say Cheeeeeese… [TORONTO SUN SUCKS]: At least someone is sticking up for a recent SUNshine Girl, 20-year-old Sarah, whose video screenshot makes her resemble a latter-day Lindsay Lohan.
… and more all day today @mondoville.
