U2 play at Masonic Temple after service in Anglican church
Word that Spectacle: Elvis Costello With …, whose production team is headed by Sir Elton John — would be taping its second season at the Masonic Temple at Yonge and Davenport was made official just in time for a couple of guests to be in town for a couple of stadium concerts: Bono and The Edge had their turn before the cameras, but not before Costello and his band did three U2 songs of their own — “Please,” “Dirty Day” and “Mysterious Ways.” The duo from Dublin proceeded to perform “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” and “Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad,” then were joined by Costello for his own “Alison,” their “Stuck in the Moment You Can’t Get Out Of,” and a closing medley of “Pump It Up” and “Get On Your Boots.” Maybe they can sell a few more copies of fast-faded No Line on the Horizon — even though the U2s were determined to help boost attention for Colin Farrell’s fantasy Irish flick Mondine when they turned up on the red carpet outside the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre on Monday night. U2 were concurrently subject of a service at the Church of the Redeemer at Bloor and Avenue, where theological connections on their new album were examined, although no paparazzi appeared to be staking that other temple out.
